I’m registered, are you?

By gabby | July 15, 2008

Never in the history of blogging here in the Philippines that a prestigious blog platform conducted a seminar on what’s hot and what’s not in the blogging arena, only this year. I’m joining WordCamp Philippines 2008 courtesy of Mindanao Bloggers because topics are very interesting. Looking forward to learn more on Wordpress and SEO since this is my field. This event will also expand my sphere of influence and establish contacts with blogging aficionados and pundits.

So, you want to become a Pinoy Bodybuilder?

By gabby | June 26, 2008

The time has come to take that first step towards fulfilling your long-held dream of building your body into a toned, muscular and athletic physique. A long journey from being a scrawny to a brawny. Perhaps you’ve been waiting for the right time or shooting of excuse after excuse but that won’t cut it any longer. With hard work and determination, a bigger, stronger and leaner you is there for the taking and hopefully this blog will somehow help to get you started. In this post, I am sharing you series of lessons learned from my struggle as pinoy bodybuilder (Keyword Stuff? Hahaha) and sometimes mistake I encounter when I workout.

First Lesson: Set Realistic Goal

Before hitting the gym, think for a second. What are your goals? What do you want out of this? An aimless approach will get you nowhere so lay out your objectives clearly. Jot down REALISTIC GOALS. Now,in case you’re hazy on the meaning of realistic, here’s what I mean: To say you want to resemble Mr. Pinoy Bodybuilding Philippines in 3 months won’t work. Expecting to look like the cover model on the latest issue of Mens Health magazine in a matter of weeks won’t cut it either. Success isn’t determined by how we look compared to the most genetically gifted but how far we’ve come from our respective starting points.

SEO – An EGO Centric Career?

By gabby | June 26, 2008

I tend to ponder on this idea when I heard two Call Center Agents in the lobby discussing their performance ranking during a break.

Agent 1 (Dreadlock Style. Ragged pants. Faded Bob Marley Shirt. Marlboro cigar): Bro, you think our team will meet the quota for this quarter? I want to be the best this time. We are always on the loosing team and I think this is the moment for us to win. Based from the metrics, I believe we’re fighting to be on top and that will make me ecstatic. Well, at least for this quarter.

Agent 2 (Long Sleeve. Clean Cut. Black Pants) : Yes, I think so. But don’t ignore Team Mambo; their stats are quite relatively high as well. I know for sure we can beat them and this time, glory is ours once we hit the target!

Now, adapting the scenario in the SEO industry is I guess somewhat true. SEO’s have tendencies to feel superior with other competitors once they got into top spot. The inner bliss creates a feeling to become more competitive in this field. So, I asked some of my colleagues if they think this is an ego centric job. You might be surprised how they quickly responded:

Miss Acceptance: “For me, it depends upon the person involve in a certain scenario. If that seo is too “hungry” for recognition, he perceives success and pride, and other things are bootless already, then it’s already egocentrism. But if the seo looks at his work as a great avenue for learning and growing, and he takes each flaw and mistake as a challenge for him to grow, learn and be a better seo and shares whatever he has gained all throughout the process, then it’s not egocentrism. I believe that to become a great seo, he must know how to work with others and for others and I guess from there, the issue on being egocentric cannot be raised anymore.” SAFE AND CLASSIC ANSWER INDEED.

Toppings: “Seo’s have their own thing, everyone is different even though they have the same strategies, and it all boils down to one thing “THE SECRET.” Even if their foundation is the same, they attack the problem with the same tactics as others do. Ego-Centric as others think, we are all the same. “WITH PERSONAL TOUCH?

Chocolate: “No, because Search Engine Optimization is not a self centered job. And in order to achieve a goal, team members must validate their ideas and concepts regarding the problem/topic (eg, how to increase the site’s traffic, sales, and backlinks). Each SEO must always consider suggestions given by their fellow SEO’s because everyone has their own uniqueness and creativity.” TEAMWORK THINKING.

OC: Frankly Yes. Everything that an SEO does is pointed to himself only. Although we can say that, SEO do care about other things other than themselves. Competitors is very much needed for stats on how they are winning the game or losing the game, they need to care about visitors too so that they will know what to improve on their website. But all of this still boils down to a common reference point - the SEO. Yes competitors are important. But they are being cared about because of the SEO’s personal need, to not commit the same mistake that they are doing or to copy the same strategy that they are doing for him to win. Visitor is also important so that they will know how to improve their website so that they can potential increase their OWN sales. Everything that an SEO does even though how noble it is, can still be pointed out to him. That is being ego-centric in the sense that he single’s out everyone on the internet and thinks only about his personal gains.” REALITY CHECK.

The Hulk: “All jobs can inflate a person’s ego. Depende sa tao yun so I would say no.” ONE LINER. STRAIGHT TO THE POINT.

Business Buzz: “No. I think it will depend on the person’s attitude p dn…if that person does have the kind of attitude n egocentric then khit ano gwin nya gnun p dn sya…even seo is a good career it doesn’t mean that it will be consider as egocentric job unless the person does have the kind of attitude.” IT BOILS IN PERSONALITY

Matrix:” Yes because Search Engine Optimization Specialist tend not to see and understand the view points of other people.” EMOTIONALLY ATTACHED. AWW.

Tigress: “D pedeng mag malaki. pedeng 1 ako ngaun tas bukas wla na kc wlang permanente sa rankings.” DEWEY UPDATE?

Urchin: “No. Pero depende rin naman sa tao yan. Maraming factors ang pwedeng iconsider kung bkt oo o ndi. Asa tao naman yan. Asa seo. Kung gusto nia ireveal yung secrets nia kung bkt sia nkkpgrank. E d good. It means na ndi sia selfish as long as wlang ibang halong ibang objective. Masarap ang feeling kung maraming kang natutulungan. Pero kung tingin nia na kelangan niang unahin yung sarili nia kesa sa iba ndi nia sasabihin yung mga secrets nia. Pero syempre maganda pa rin yung sabi ng patalastas “learn to think of others” kasi bbalik naman sau un at higit pa. Hehe.” NICE ONE.
How about you? Any resemblance of thought on this question? :)

Oist….I’m back

By gabby | January 17, 2008

You heard it right! I’m back now from the blogosphere. After much clamor from the crowd (feeling sikat), I don’t have a choice but to provide you (my dear readers) regular post on practically everything under the sun, the moon and the stars. Lets include the meteorites, supernovas and milky way. *Corny*

A student of mine called me early this evening thanking me for a great mentorship I did for her when I was a teacher. She actually remembers me even up to now. That was 4 years ago. I immediately checked my old profile (that was hacked by someone who should not live in this world anymore. I believe in karma btw) and stumble upon inspiring messages they posted.

I dont know but for some reason, emo became my word of the night. Here’s why:

How sweet it is to be ‘ranked’ by ‘two’

By gabby | October 23, 2007

Nope.

It’s not the song title from a 1965 hit song popularized by James Taylor. It’s the sweetness of winning 2nd place in the recently concluded MBS Tek Bowling Tournament. Yehey!

We are just hoping to win for the 3rd spot. Fortunately, with all the team effort, our group landed in Sweet Second beating the two other competitive teams. It was a nice game indeed.

Rewind. . .

“Gabby, deretso lang ang tira.” - Rico, The Captain

“Gabby, control the movement” - “Rainier

“Gabby, four steps lang dapat.” - Alvin

“Gabby, wag kang mag cha cha . ” - Rico again

“Gabby, let it flow, let it flow” - Rainier again

and many many more….. These were all advices I received from my fellow teammates. Geesh. I thought it was easy but it’s not. It turns out that most of my throws roll smoothly…..in the gutter lane. Ha.ha. My hope was -20 for this game. Enjoy enjoy na lang kapag game proper.

Then the final event…

Focus. Concentrate. Tira.

Shoot!

Yep. It pays all the effort. (wooohooooo). I’ve made it. (woooohooo).

Three strikes in a row. Amazing. Superb. Unimaginable. What a feeling. Grabe na to! ha.ha.

I can’t believe I’ve made it. It’s really one big unforgettable day night. I leave you guys with my winning strike of that event.

So, lesson learned:

The aftermath of terror…

By gabby | October 19, 2007

I received an instant message from a fellow officemate asking what will happened regarding my post about the mall wide sale in the metro because of the Glorietta 2 bombing situation. Me thinks, there’s an adverse effect on the mall shoppers with the current news being shown in the television. Aggravating the situation is a widespread of text messages circulating the mobile world right now. Result = Bomb Scare.

okey-guys-chat-conversation.GIF

I am now having second thoughts as to whether or not to shop tomorrow.

Gabby One: (I don’t care approach)

C’mmon, its ULTRA MEGA SUPER SALE. For the kurips out there like you, it’s time to drool into red and yellow tags.

Gabby Two: (Paranoid approach)

But hey, you don’t want to spend the long day holiday vacation in a hospital bed especially right now that you have okeyguys.com. Right?

…and there’s Gabby Three?

Gabby, ako ang iyong konsensya. Mag blog ka na lang ng mag blog buong weekend. Kikita ka pa!”

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

So many things to buy. So much of terror.

Bloody Friday

By gabby | October 19, 2007

A friend of mine happens to keep me updated with the recent bombing in Glorietta 2.

Initially, it was reported as an ‘LPG explosion’ but police authority confirmed that it was a bomb. The blast which hit the first level of Glorietta 2 shopping center leaves (as of this writing) 5 people killed and at least 40 injured.

Here’s the full news from GMANews.TV

At least six people were killed while at least 47 others were hospitalized after an explosion of still undetermined origin rocked a Makati City shopping mall at about 1:30 p.m. Friday.

The police on site had earlier traced the blast to an LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) tank but Director Gen. Avelino Razon Jr, PNP chief, said that an assessment by ground commanders showed that what exploded could be “a bomb.”

“Sa assessment ng ground commander, hindi LPG.Hindi pa natin masabi – it could be a bomb, pero wala pa kaming ebidensiya,” Razon said.

Police Director Geary Barias, chief of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), said initial information showed that the explosion emanated from the Luk Yuen Noodle House at the first level of the Glorietta 2 shopping mall.

He said it was apparently an “accidental explosion” of a liquefied petroleum gas tank, but added that “we are still verifying it.”

Barias said the PNP Bomb Data Center has sent a team to the site to inspect the area.

Asked if the incident was connected to any terrorist activity, Barias said that, “di pa malaman ang koneksyon nito, pero initial info namin is LPG blast (We still don’t know if it’s connected, but our initial information is it’s an LPG blast).”

However, dzBB radio quoted shopping mall security guards as saying that the blast actually emanated from a nearby delivery area.

The bridge way which connects Glorietta 2 to the Park Square shopping mall sustained heavy damage, the report said.

The Luk Yuen restaurant, which is situated near the Park Square bus and jeepney terminal, was hit by fire in September last year.

Metro Manila police spokesman Supt. Rodel Sermonia said the three fatalities were killed on the spot.

“Initial reports show we have three dead on the spot and several wounded. We don’t have the exact number of wounded people,” he told dzBB radio.

However, radio dzBB reported a fourth fatality but the information could not be immediately confirmed.

Radio dzMM said three of fatalities were a male and two females

It’s mega versus super!

By gabby | October 18, 2007

Nowhere to go this weekend?

Well, if I were you, I’ll be heading up this Friday in Ortigas Center to witness the clashes of two mall titans in the metropolis. Yup. It’s the mall wide sale of SM Megamall and Robinsons Galleria.

SM Megamall Mega Sale up to 50% OFF versus Robinsons Galleria Super Sale up to 70% OFF.

Just pick your bet. Mega or Super? Hmmm…enticing, isn’t? I suggest, you need to visit both malls since a lot of giveaways, freebies, raffles and other ‘pakulo’ are up for grabs. Most probably you’ll see me there somewhere making hanap hanap of the cheapest and practical stuff.

This is a pre-holiday treat to all mall shoppers in the metro. Enjoy big discounts from 50 -70% OFF the price. That’s a huge value savings to all shopa-listic, budget conscious and kurips peeps like me. Haha.

So, kita kits and enjoy your shopping! :)  Okey guys?
